Welcome to the story of Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC, a club deeply rooted in the heart of our community. Established on June 24, 1958, at the Mayfield Hotel on Albert Royd Street, Rochdale, this club has built a legacy defined by passion, determination, and numerous achievements.
The club’s first game occurred on September 6, 1958, against Underbank of Huddersfield in the Halifax League. This event marked the beginning of an era filled with inspiring moments and remarkable milestones.
The Evolution of Greatness
In the 1970s, Rochdale Mayfield experienced a period of unprecedented domination in the community game, symbolized by their numerous victories. Their successful tenure during this time included winning all trophies available outside the professional game, including the Pennine League seven consecutive times.
A significant shift occurred in 1986 when the club relocated to Castleton Moor, Keswick Street. This transition brought them into the National Conference League in 1988, prompting a rebranding to Rochdale Mayfield. The club’s achievements didn’t stop there as the formation of the junior section, the Mayfield Mustangs, in 1997 began nurturing future professional talents.
Modern-Day Mayfield
The move to Mayfield Sports Centre in 2006 proved significant as the NCL Division 1 Championship was won the same year under coaches Matt Calland and the late Steve Gartland. Promotion back to the Premier Division of the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League was achieved in the 2014 season under the guidance of coach Matt Calland and current first team coach Sam Butterworth.
Today, Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC proudly stands as a permanent fixture in the NCL Premier Division, continuing to inspire and engage the community with their unwavering spirit and commitment.
